Duncan’s Ski Trip I have had many family trips in my life so far. Many of them have been out of the state of Georgia. All of them have been wonderful trips, but the one that stands out the most was my family trip to Beaver Creek, Colorado. The trip to Colorado was a ski trip. It was the first time I had ever seen snow and the Rockies. My cousins, my aunt, my mom, my dad, and my uncle had all seen snow before, but my sisters and I hadn’t. I’ll tell you what though seeing those snow-capped mountains was the most magical, beautiful thing that I had ever seen in my life. The mountains looked like coffee ice cream dipped in white fudge. The peaks of the mountains were astounding! The sheer cliffs and deep ravines were mystifying and remarkable at the same time. The harsh landscape of the mountains looked rigorous and amazing, and everyone new a man couldn’t survive a day without the right supplies on this terrain in the range at this time. I’d say that that was definitely a highlight of the trip. My family and I were staying in an apartment near the resort and lodge. The building that we stayed in had a hot tub and was next to a ski trail that sloped downhill that was perfect for sledding, so I guess you could say we had a pretty good setup. We had snowball fights outside in the snow all the time. The snow we used was icy and hurt when you got hit, and then the snow would get in your clothes and, you’d be wet and cold. We had icicles hanging from the sides of the apartment building that we would eat and suck on too. They tasted crisp and cold and would make your hands freeze if you held them too long. They make your hands feel chilly and eventually numb. The hot tub was put into great use while we were there also. It felt great to get into something warm and wet at the same time. My dad had gotten us some TV trays that we used to sled down the ski trail. I remember the blur of my vision as I sipped down the hill. I saw green from the tree, brown from the tree trunks, my feet, and of course the glistening snow. Outside it smelled like pine and cool, fresh air. Our apartment had it all! My most favorite part of the whole trip was of course the skiing part! Shredding powder down a ski course is definitely an exciting pastime. Being near the woods with snow everywhere was I like I was in one of those winter wonderland Christmas cartoons. It was like riding a roller coaster when it’s snowing. The fresh snow would crunch and slide under your skis. I loved zipping down the mountain and hearing the CSSSHHH of my skis against the snow. After a long day of skiing my mom would buy my cousins and I crepes filled with chocolate, marshmallows, and graham cracker crumbs. They smelled sweet and sugary. They were gooey, chocolaty, and warm. Man, those things were good!
One night just my mom, my dad, my sisters, and I rode a snow plow up to the top of the mountain to a fancy restaurant and had a delicious dinner. I had lamb chops with mashed potatoes and vanilla ice cream with a brownie on top. The food at Beaver Creek was very tasty. I had an awesome time at Beaver Creek with my family. I learned to ski, saw my first snow, got my first glimpse of the Rockies, and had time with my family that I hadn’t seen in a while. Going to Beaver Creek, Colorado was absolutely one of the best trips I have ever been on.
